Internet Exchange Point IX.br Fortaleza, CE, in Brazil, reached the mark of 1Tb/s of peak traffic this week (December, 7, 2020).
About 4 months ago I wrote a post to announce that the Internet Exchange IX.br São Paulo had become the largest in the world, both in peak traffic, reaching 10Tbps, and in the number of interconnected Autonomous Systems. And it is with a lot of happiness and satisfaction that now I return to the topic to talk about Fortaleza!
IX.br Fortaleza, in the state of Ceará (CE), is located in the Northeastern region of Brazil. The geographical location is such that the city is a focal point for several submarine cables. Both existing and projected for the near future. The Northeast region of Brazil grows e develops fantastically, with important technological hubs, such as Porto Digital in the city of Recife, Pernambuco (PE).
IX.br Fortaleza is still emerging from its infancy, just beginning to show its true nature as a natural point of interconnection for the networks of Northeast region, and even North and Midwest regions of the country. The photo that illustrates this post, and the pictures bellow, show the approximate geolocation of IP prefixes found at local BGP table in the Route Server of IX.br Fortaleza, CE, and we already see points over the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia, as well as in all Brazilian states.
Among the more than 300 Autonomous Systems directly in IX.br Fortaleza, we observe networks from all Brazilian regions and from other countries, with an expected and natural concentration of networks from our Northeast region. The picture bellow shows the approximate headquarters location for Brazilian participant networks.
Observing the current scenario, I’m sure that reaching 1Tb/s peak is just one small milestone from many others, that we still will see in the trajectory of this Internet Exchange.
I am very proud to be part of the team that contributes to its existence. The IX.br initiative and its 33 Internet Exchanges in Brazil contribute to a better, faster, more resilient, cheaper Internet, that reaches more and more people and companies. With this, we contribute to for human, social and economic development. I like to think that with our work at IX.br we make this world a better place!
Cheers! 🙂
